In 2008 the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce supported the following community event:

"Wrap a Senior in
Love"
is a community outreach campaign endorsed by the Chamber Board that was
created to provide "LOVE" blankets to seniors in nursing homes on the
Eastside during the holidays. Deadline for all blankets orders is
December 5, 2008.
They are our fathers, our mothers, our neighbors and our
friends, and yet every year numerous senior citizens in local nursing
homes will spend the holidays alone, depressed, and forgotten. But
together, businesses and individuals on the Eastside are making a
difference by participating in the “Wrap a Senior in Love” community
campaign.
Organized by Makaylaa Powers, owner of Visiting Angels in Kirkland, the
goal is to ensure that every senior in a nursing home on the Eastside
will be remembered, acknowledged, and honored during the holiday season.
Through the generous purchase and donation of “Love” blankets – called
Affirmawraps ($25 each) by Kirkland Chamber of Commerce members, local
businesses, and individuals, the program is committed to wrapping more
than 1000 thousand seniors in LOVE for the 2008 holiday season.
There are multiple ways for Chamber members, businesses, organizations, and individuals to get involved.

- Associations - Invite members to give, recruit other gifts or volunteer to help deliver blankets during December.
- Retail Stores - Display a “LOVE” blanket and provide information cards for customers to purchase the blankets directly on. Postcards are available for distribution and can include your stores logo.
